Our Staff

The Richmond Charities employs 11 members of staff who are based at three offices at The Green, Hickey’s Almshouses and Michel’s Almshouses.

Juliet Ames-Lewis (Chief Executive)

Juliet joined The Richmond Charities as Director in March 2015 and became Chief Executive in January 2018. Prior to joining The Richmond Charities, Juliet was Executive Clerk at Isleworth & Hounslow Charity, another almshouse charity just across the river, for eight years. Before taking up her roles within the almshouse world, Juliet’s previous working life included time at Christian Aid, Action Aid, Common Purpose, a charity designed to improve the way that cities function by bringing together key decision makers from the public, private and voluntary sector, and working alongside Rabbi Julia Neuberger at The King’s Fund, a healthcare policy think-tank.

Lorraine Bradley (Scheme Manager)

Lorraine has lived in the Richmond Borough since she was 18 months old and she attended local schools and brought up her two children in Richmond. Lorraine joined The Richmond Charities in 2012 and she is Scheme Manager for Church Estate, Houblon’s and Benn’s Walk Almshouses. Her previous roles included working at Kingston Hospital and Queen Mary’s Hospital. Lorraine was a volunteer at Age UK Richmond (Meadows Hall) and then a Manager at Barnes Centre before returning to be the Manager at Richmond. She first joined The Richmond Charities as Deputy Scheme Manager and then became Scheme Manager in February 2016.

Joanne Davison (Deputy Scheme Manager)

Jo joined The Richmond Charities in January 2018. She is Deputy Scheme Manager for Michel’s, Bishop Duppa’s, Queen Elizabeth’s, Candler Almshouses and Manning Place. Jo’s previous roles included managing a supported living service for people with learning disabilities, a care home manager for older people and Senior Healthcare Assistant with the Princess Alice Hospice.

Position: Deputy Scheme Manager
James Dorey (Property & Estates Manager)

James has been the Property & Estates Manager for The Richmond Charities since January 2008. His role is to oversee refurbishment works, major works, maintenance and repairs on the almshouses and investment properties. Before joining The Richmond Charities, James worked for various commercial surveyor firms in North London and the West End where he gained experience in management, maintenance and repairs, which was an ideal fit with managing The Richmond Charities’ almshouses and residential property.

Position: Property & Estates Manager
Debbie Flaherty (Deputy Scheme Manager)

Debbie joined The Richmond Charities in February 2016. She is Scheme Manager for Manning Place and Deputy Scheme Manager for Hickey’s, Church Estate, Houblon’s and Benn’s Walk Almshouses. In the past, Debbie worked in an Inner London Housing office where she spent 20 years working in rehousing. She then moved with her family to live in New Zealand for nine years where she worked for Auckland Council.

Position: Deputy Scheme Manager
Rev'd Stuart Lee (Chaplain)

Stuart joined the charity as Chaplain in September 2016, after spending the previous couple of decades as an Anglican parish priest. The role of the chaplain within The Richmond Charities is not only a religious one. Stuart provides a confidential listening ear to both residents and staff. Before he was ordained Stuart worked in the theatre. He also works in private practice as a psychotherapist. The skills that Stuart has gained in these other areas of his life enrich and support his work at the almshouses.

Alison McAlear (Administrator)

Alison joined The Richmond Charities’ staff team in June 2007. After spending time working in mainly corporate environments, in some varied and challenging roles, Alison found that it was a wonderful change coming into a smaller, friendlier place of work. Alison enjoys her role working with applicants for almshouse accommodation, colleagues, trustees and residents.

Linda Prendergast (Scheme Manager)

Linda joined The Richmond Charities’ staff team in 2000 and she is Scheme Manager for Michel’s, Bishop Duppa’s, Queen Elizabeth’s and Candler Almshouses. Linda was born in Scotland and has a varied working background, ranging from cook, barmaid and café owner to Auxiliary nurse, care assistant with Social Services and a Housing Manager in sheltered accommodation.

Gail Sullivan (Scheme Manager)

Gail joined The Richmond Charities in 2009. She is Scheme Manager for Hickey’s Almshouses. Prior to Gail’s move to the charity, she managed a supported housing centre for visually impaired people. In the past Gail has also managed a Home Care Agency and has been a carer herself and so she brings a good variety of experience in the sector to her role with The Richmond Charities.

Mick Tinson (Health, Safety & Security Officer)

Mick joined The Richmond Charities in April 2016. His roles are to ensure compliance in the workplace and also to ensure all estates and individual almshouses are a safe and secure environment for the charity’s residents and visitors. Before joining The Richmond Charities, Mick worked in a new 1.1 million square foot mixed-used development in the heart of Walton-on-Thames. He managed the Security Department for nine years, working very closely with the client (Savills Management Resources). Being part of the management team taught Mick a multitude of skills which enabled him to succeed in his role with The Richmond Charities.

Position: Health, Safety & Security Officer
Gerry Wilson (Caretaker)

Gerry has been The Richmond Charities’ Caretaker since 1995 and is the charity’s longest serving member of staff. Gerry was born in Sedgefield, Durham, is married to Bernadette and they have three children and eight grandchildren. Prior to his move to The Richmond Charities, Gerry spent time as an industrial electrician, a steel worker and a telecoms engineer.

Position: Caretaker
