We will be building a new block of 12 almshouses on Queen’s Road on the site where there is currently an outdoor sports court, right next to our almshouses in Manning Place. This is a really exciting new development for the charity and will provide homes for more people in need in the borough. All the new almshouses will be level access accommodation and some will be suitable for wheelchair users and those with reduced mobility.
The build will start, we hope, in the Spring and will run for about 18 months. We hope to open the new almshouses in late 2023. There will of course be some disruption and noise for our residents living at Manning Place, but this will be a short-term price to pay for the longer-term goal of having more almshouses.
